Job details - Fabricator
Job Type: Full Time
We have full time first shift openings for TIG/MIG welder fabricators. TIG welding is a plus.
The difference between this and other welding positions is that this is not a production welder or welder fitter type of work. A setup welder might be a closer match: the welder fabricator has to learn how to look at the shop drawings, interpret what is required, lay it out, cut the material and fabricate the product. They may work on six or more totally different products in a week, each requiring different techniques. Lots of thinking and problem solving will be required. They need to be able to visualize how the product goes together from a two dimensional drawing to a 3D object.
This means that for most of the applicants, we have to do a lot of training. It's extremely unusual for a candidate to become productive before the 90 days are up. Attached is a copy of the job description. Please look at it carefully and screen applicants according to these requirements.
If the candidate has the necessary qualifications, share the job description with them to gauge their interest, then email their resume to us, including the results of any testing you have done. Welding candidates should have passed a math test. A blueprint reading test would be helpful if possible.
Job duties include:
Good math skills required, i.e. converting fractions and decimals, basic algebra. Must be able to read a tape measure to 16ths of an inch.
Works from blueprints and shop drawings to lay out miscellaneous steel such as railings, stairs, fences, window guards, gates, columns and steel stairs.
Cuts, punches, and drills material as required.
MIG welds steel materials such as tube, angle and channel, ranging from 16 gauge to ½” thick. TIG welding capability of brass, aluminum and stainless steel is a plus.
Grinds materials to high finish standards.
Heavy lifting is required. Must be able to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis.
State certification by Badger Railing will be required.
Work is paid on a piece rate basis.
This is not production welding. The fabricator takes the job from the blueprints through laying out the job, cutting materials, welding, grinding and finishing.
A Valid WI driver’s license is required. Although they will not be driving while on the agencies payroll, they must be able to be insured by our insurance company.
